Cornflower 'Black Ball' – Centaurea cyanus
Cornflower 'Black Ball' – Centaurea cyanus
Black cornflower seeds for your picking garden
Not your classic bright blue cornflower but now in a very beautiful dark color.
Cornflowers, as hardy annuals, benefit greatly from sowing them under cover in a cold greenhouse/conservatory in autumn. This way, you'll have taller, sturdier plants in spring. But you can also sow them in spring. They are winter-hardy, so they can withstand frost.
Feel free to keep pruning this plant, so you'll always have new stems. Bees love it too.

Tip from Chrisje
Sow in autumn for extra early blooms in spring. The young plants are surprisingly hardy and will sprout quickly as soon as the spring sun appears!
